Negotiate Towards 150% Salary
Mar 08, 2024We all hate negotiating, because it puts us in a vulnerable place. Us women have to start standing up for ourselves. There's still a huge cliff between the salaries of men and women and some time ago I heard someone say: "That cliff only exists, because a lot of women weren't taught how to negotiate" and he definitely is NOT wrong. And today I'm going to help you take the first steps towards making that cliff disappear!
Step 1: Make a list of your technical skills
The first step is to make a list from all your technical skills (also the ones that don't seem relevant to this role). Write them all down in a list together with the years of experience you have in them.
Step 2: Make a list of your soft skills
Now do the same with your soft skills. These are even bigger, because these can't be trained! These are just skills that you were born with and just good at. For example, you might be a great listener, which is super important in some roles!
Step 3: Analyse the job description
Analyse the job description and look for all the things they ask for. Write those things down and now compare with your 2 lists of skills. What skills that you have can you use in those requirements?
Step 4: Back it up!
Now you have a list of the requirements they're asking for and which you actually own. Back each of those skills up with at least 2 examples. When did you use that skill? How did you use that skill etc.?
Now that you're done with those steps, it's important that you know the number you want and more importantly: why you deserve to have that! As soon as you know that, the only thing left to do is practice your speech and make sure you sound confident and fierce!
